4 Steps to Making a Positive Impact Beyond the Screen, Not Just Behind It

Social media can be a great tool to enhance the power of human connection, but only when you make it part of the way you socialize, not the only way you socialize. If you want to be remembered by the people in your life and truly make a positive impact, show up for them in ways beyond the screen not just behind it. Take the time to nourish the relationships of the people you care deeply about not just through a comment, thumbs up or heart emoji, but through real heartfelt expression that shows your appreciation and how much you care.

Here are the 4 steps to making an impact beyond the screen, not just behind it:

  1. Listen to your intuition. When you get a feeling to reach out in kindness and positivity- reach out, without getting caught up in analyzing why, or in what way. Just show up. Act immediately. In whatever way your intuition tells you to. There is a reason you get that prompting and when you act on it, you will see that reason come to life time and time again. We need each other in this game called life and it’s up to us to act when we are called upon to show up for someone else.
  1. Think about your communication platform. Because social media and email is the primary way most people communicate, it has made face-to-face interaction, phone calls and handwritten heartfelt card sending stand out in a way that holds an abundance of impact. If you think about your birthday and the difference between someone sending you a comment on Facebook vs. showing up at your door to take you to lunch, which has a greater impact? Which do you remember more? The point is the more effort, time, and thought people put into reaching out to you, the more you remember them and attach your own emotional appreciation to them.
  2. Be intentional with your time and efforts. Many of us get caught up in the  “I don’t have time syndrome” or the “I really want to but (insert excuse)” or even over-analyze our intuition saying to ourselves, “It’s not perfect, and I don’t know how the recipient will react,” or “Will they think I’m crazy, or mushy, etc.” If we go into nourishing our relationships with heartfelt intention, the energy of that will be felt through whatever capacity we choose to communicate it. People just need to feel what you feel for them and as long as you put your heartfelt intention in the way you express how you feel, it will be felt. Feel it in your heart, express it, they will feel it in theirs.
  3. Find out what matters to them. Take the time to find what matters most to the person you are reaching out to. What are their interests? What do they love to do in their spare time? What are they passionate about? Often when we look deeper into what matters we find meaningful ways that we can connect. Speak to those things when you communicate. Reach out and tell someone how much you admire what they are doing in their life, celebrate them and the things that matter to them.

When you apply these four steps into how you communicate, you will begin to see the world around you shift. You will notice the way in which you can truly be a light in the lives of others and make a lasting impact on this world. Be who you are and listen to the gift of your intuition. People are placed on your path to teach you, help you grow, and be there for them. You are both the giver of love and the receiver of it. What you send out comes back to you tenfold. You never know what gift your heartfelt message will be to someone so have the courage to send it and allow it to bring the love in your heart to people in your life.

Happy sending!
